Using Twitter to Enhance Meetings

old men Using Twitter to Enhance MeetingsRegular meetings and a good solid agenda are essential staples to running a business of any size.  In every city there is a group of men (or women) having daily morning meetings with no agenda but it is still a staple of life.  People talk one at a time – share- build community.

The group of men who hang in my local coffee shop are always good for a few laughs when I watch and listen to them interact. They rib and give each other the business.  They complain mostly about health and politics. They talk about the news, sports and they sit not saying anything.  Content on being together.  Community is the key. Isn’t that what we all strive for in our lives?

People at companies often complain on having so many meetings, but if they stepped back and really saw the value they would know regular meetings are essential to all of us. To build community, to get our views across to others, to make a project work efficiently?

I thought as they left and i continued to work several of them popped there heads in looking to see if any of the group was in the coffee shop still.  Then it dawned on me……I wonder if the coffee shop men had the opportunity to use social media tools like Twitter that maybe they could continue on throughout the day chattering to each other.  I believe this would enhance the experience and actually get them more excited for their daily meetups. Maybe companies can learn to communicate using twitter to enhance those daily meetings.
Before I co-founded  Grass Shack Events & Media I was in charge of the production of a large corporate communications company.  I made it a point for all the production staff to be on yahoo messenger (this was 7-8 years ago) because our team was all over the world producing events and meetings. When the tragedy of Sept 11 hit us we had another access to our people.  If we had twitter back then I would not have had to have them online to connect with them.

Do you think these older gentlemen would benefit from the use of twitter?   Do you utilize Twitter and other social media to enhance your meetings and events?
