Just finished reading Gary Vaynerchuks book -Crush It!
This book is the football coach of social media. As I read it I can see the always animated Gary Vaynerchuk pacing back and forth in front of his little chalk board, occasionally ripping someone a new one. Asking the readers if they have the guts or the passion. Knowing when to cuddle a player and then motivating them by challenging them to make that extra effort to win. This book boils down to passion. Having passion in your life which was a nice kick in the ass for me personally as I read it. I am really passionite about my business but I am more passionite about my family. As he preaches passion he also says listen to your gut and that is some great advice. His three rules are simple:
Love your family. Work super hard and live your passion.
This is some serious Bob Knight stuff and he is right and many folks would scoff at this book but it hit me between the eyes. If you aren’t jazzed about your job everyday than make a change. Live passionately.
Little background on Gary. He has a podcast called Wine Library which is wildly successful. Living near the Napa Valley I have always thought of wine folks as snobs. Arent 49er fans white wine sippers? (who said that anyway?) Gary has changed all that in a big way- he talks to all of us in his podcast and I am sure he has turned a whole new class onto wine. He infuses his love of the NY Jets and is just a real person. Sometimes a loud obnoxious real person but a real person. My wife wont watch his show called the Thunder Show because she says. “Why watch some ass yell at me about wine and the Jets?” ButI like watching him. I also like drinking wine.

He rebranding the family business using the Wine Library grew from a $4 million dollar business to a $40 million business.
He is on facebook, twitter constantly. Gary convinced Conan O’Brien, Ellen Degeneres to eat dirt and suck on socks on TV. He signed a 10-book deal with HarperStudio for a reputed $1 million. This first book ‘Crush It: Turn Your Passion into Profits in a Digital World’ was a fun inspiring read for me. I know I liked it because I dog-eared the hell out of it and that means I want to go back and read these pages.
He says Social Media =Business. Period.
I say: I think you should buy/read this book.
